The heavy blue and green landscape has more contrast than is usually found in traditional verdures and combined with the gold hues makes it a warmer and more inviting piece. One detects an English influence in the composition which can be attributed to James I, who offered privileges to Flemish weavers willing to settle in England and so established the Mortlake tapestry manfactury in west London in 1619.
