This historic tapestry design was inspired by a painting now in the town hall of Roubaix. It commemorates an edict from Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, giving the town the right to manufacture and sell woven material. Here, Lord Pierre de Roubaix, seated at the left, watches as a herald shows the edict to the townspeople. Note the individuality of expressions, typical of medieval weavings.
