This tapestry was inspired by a 16th century allegorical scene entitled the "Sacrifice to Cybele" painted by Jan Brueghl de Velours (1568-1625). Cybele the goddess of the Earth, attended by cherubs in a pastoral background, is being offered gifts by the nymphs.
